Luigi Lovaglio, class of 1955, graduated in Economics and Commerce from the University of Bologna. Lovaglio has been the CEO and General Manager of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena since February 2022. He has been operating in the banking sector for over 40 years, having joined Unicredit in 1973. In the following 20 years, he held managerial positions of increasing responsibility, leading different geographical areas of commercial business in Italy for more than 10 years. From February 2019 to June 2021, he served as CEO and General Manager of Credito Valtellinese, after having held the position of Chairman from October 15, 2018, to February 25, 2019.
Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) is an Italian credit institution founded in 1472 in the form of a Monte di Pietà to support the underprivileged classes of the population of the city of Siena. It is the oldest bank in operation and is also considered the longest-lasting in the world.
Along with the other companies in the group, it constitutes the sixth banking group in Italy after Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Banco BPM, ICCREA Banca, and BPER Banca. It operates throughout Italy and in the main international markets.
