MPS

Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) is an Italian credit institution founded in 1472 in the form of a Monte di Pietà to support the underprivileged classes of the population of the city of Siena. It is the oldest bank in operation and is also considered the longest-lasting in the world.

Along with the other companies in the group, it constitutes the sixth banking group in Italy after Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Banco BPM, ICCREA Banca, and BPER Banca. It operates throughout Italy and in the main international markets. The group's operations, in addition to traditional banking activities, cover asset management, private banking (mutual funds, wealth management for private clients, pension funds, and life insurance), investment banking, and innovative corporate finance (project finance, private equity, and financial consulting).

Currently, the majority shareholder of the Montepaschi Group is the Italian state, which holds a total of 64.23% of the share capital, with direct participation from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
