Born in Turin in 1942. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intesa Sanpaolo since April 2016, after having been Chairman of the Management Board since May 2013, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro is currently Chairman (non-executive and independent) of ASTM and Lead Independent Director of Edison. He is a member of the Executive Committee of ABI and the Corporate Governance Committee of Borsa Italiana. At LUISS University, where he is currently a board member, he directed the Department of Economic and Business Sciences from 2004 to 2011. A full professor of Business Economics, first at the University of Turin and then at LUISS, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro was Director, from 1974 to 1995, of the Institute for Research on Business and Development, the largest body of the National Research Council in the economic field. He was an Independent Director of Fiat for nine years (2005-2014), also chairing its Audit Committee, and from 2002 to 2010 he was Chairman of Atlantia. Among his previous positions, particularly noteworthy are the Chairmanship of ENI (1999-2002) and IRI (1997-1999). He was a member of the Board of Directors of Confindustria for 13 years from 1997 to 2010.
