Gianni Franco Papa, a law graduate at Cattolica University in Milan, began his career at UniCredit, holding various management positions in Italy and abroad. In 2000, he was appointed Head of Asia (Singapore); in 2003, Head of the Americas (New York); in 2005, General Manager of UniBanka (Slovakia) and, in 2008, of Ukrsotsbank (Ukraine). In 2010, he was appointed Head of the CEE Division and Deputy CEO of Bank Austria. In 2015, he was appointed Head of the Corporate & Investment Banking Division and Deputy General Manager of the UniCredit Group, where he assumed the role of General Manager in 2016. In 2019, he served as Advisor to the CEO of UniCredit.
In 2021, Gianni Franco Papa was elected to the Board of Directors of BPER Banca, where he served, from 2021 to April 2024, as a member (formerly Chairman) of the Control and Risk Committee and the Related Parties Committee. In 2022, he was appointed Chairman of Banca Cesare Ponti SpA and Banca Carige SpA. Since April 2024, he has been Chief Executive Officer of BPER Banca and, since May 2024, Director and Member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Banking Association (ABI).
