Biography

With over 30 years at HSBC, Gerd Pircher has served as CEO for Italy since 2018 and has also been Head of Global Trade Solutions, HSBC Continental Europe since May 2025. Previously, he held numerous senior international roles in the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Europe, primarily in the Corporate & Institutional Banking and Strategy & Planning divisions. Before returning to Italy, Gerd Pircher was Regional Head of Global Trade Solutions for Latin America, where he restructured the business for which he was responsible, successfully relaunching it for growth and profitability. Previously, he served as Head of Strategy and Planning for HSBC in Europe and Chief of Staff to the CEO of HSBC Europe. During that time, he was responsible for the strategic launch of the Commercial Banking business in Italy (2015).

Gerd Pircher was a member of the Steering Committee of the Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano Foundation from 2020 to May 2024. Since December 2023, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of Aspen Institute Italia. In 2021, he was a member of the Finance & Infrastructure Task Force of the B20 in Italy, and in 2013 of the G20-Y in Russia. He is currently a non-executive director of phaseinvest, a Spanish FinTech operating in the direct indexing sector.

Pircher holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wales and a degree in Financial Services from the University of Manchester. He also holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne, where he was named "The Wall Street Journal Europe & IMD MBA Future Leaders' Scholar."
