Born in Rome in 1955, Francesco Starace graduated in Nuclear Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan. After various work experiences at General Electric, ABB Group, and Alstom Power, in 2000 he joined the Enel Group where he held various positions until becoming, from 2014 to 2023, CEO and General Manager of the company. He also served as President of Enel Foundation. In June 2017, Francesco Starace was elected President of Eurelectric, which brings together operators in the European electricity sector. He is passionate about poetry and art: in particular, he appreciates contemporary art. In his free time, Francesco Starace practices cycling and participates in various competitions. Married and father of two children, he is a fan of Roma.
Enel S.p.A. (originally an acronym for National Agency for Work Energy) is an Italian multinational energy company, among the leading integrated global operators in the electricity and gas sectors. Established as a public entity at the end of 1962, it was transformed into a joint-stock company in 1992 and in 1999, following the liberalization of the electricity market in Italy, it was listed on the stock exchange. The Italian State, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, remains its main shareholder (as of December 31, 2020, it owned 23.6% of the share capital).
