Stefano Venier, born in Udine in 1963, has been the CEO of Snam since April 2022, one of the leading energy infrastructure companies in the world. He has over 30 years of managerial experience in the energy and utility sectors at both the Italian and international levels. From 2014 to 2022, he was the CEO of Hera, a publicly traded multiutility active in the energy, energy networks, water, and environmental sectors. At Hera, he also served as General Director of Energy Development and Market (2008-2014) and Director of Business Development, Strategic Planning, and Regulatory Affairs (2004-2008). From 1996 to 2004, he worked at the international consulting firm A.T Kearney, where he was first a Senior Consultant focusing on energy, telecommunications, and automotive, and later Vice President of Energy & Utilities, working with some of the main Italian and European operators in the sector. From 1989 to 1996, he worked at the Eni Group, where he held positions of increasing responsibility at both national and international levels in Strategic Planning, Market Analysis, and Strategic Projects in the petrochemical sector. He began his professional career in 1987 at Electrolux, working in industrial automation. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Udine and a Master's in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics from the Mattei School of Higher Studies. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the MIB Trieste School of Management business school.
Snam S.p.A. (acronym for Società NAzionale Metanodotti, that is National Methane Pipeline Company) is an energy infrastructure company headquartered in San Donato Milanese (MI) active in the transportation, storage, and regasification of methane.
It was established on October 30, 1941, under the name "National Methane Pipeline Company". In 2009, Snam Rete Gas acquired 100% of Italgas S.p.A. from ENI (which later opted for a partial spin-off) and of Stoccaggi Gas Italia S.p.A.
Snam operates in Italy and through subsidiaries in Albania, Austria, France, Greece, and the United Kingdom. It is among the shareholders of TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline) and ADNOC Gas Pipelines, a company that holds the management rights of 38 gas pipelines in the United Arab Emirates.
The company is listed on the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange.
