Born in Modica (RG) in 1967, Orazio Iacono graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Catania and obtained a Master's in Business Administration from the M.I.P. – School of Management of the Polytechnic University of Milan. He began his career at the Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) Group in 1993, holding positions of increasing responsibility within the Italian railway company Rete Ferroviaria Italiana until becoming its Director of Commercial and Network Operations in 2012. From 2014 to 2017, he worked at Trenitalia as Director of the Regional Passenger Division, before taking on the role of CEO and General Manager of Trenitalia, a role he held until 2020. In 2021, he was Senior Advisor to Oaktree Capital Management/PwC Italy and subsequently Chief Operating Officer for Sustainable Infrastructures at Saipem from January until May 2022, when he was appointed CEO of the Hera Group. Married, he is the father of two children.

It provides energy services (gas, electricity), water services (water supply, sewage, and purification), and environmental services (waste collection and disposal) to about 4 million citizens and operates in more than 260 municipalities.
