Born in Milan on June 24, 1971, Paolo Luigi Merli graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia in March 1996. After a year of civil service at the Italian Red Cross and a year of internship at a leading Engineering Firm in Milan, he attended the MEDEA Master at the Enrico Mattei School of Eni in San Donato Milanese during the 1997/1998 academic year, obtaining his diploma in June 1998. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the ERG Group, where he joined in 2006 and has held various roles. From 2014 to April 2021, he was the CFO and Group Executive responsible for the preparation of corporate accounting documents.
ERG S.p.a., acronym for Edoardo Raffinerie Garrone, is an Italian industrial group, founded in Genoa in 1938, with its operational headquarters in the same city. The company is controlled by the Garrone-Mondini family through the Italian holding company San Quirico S.p.A. (for about 56%) and Polcevera S.A. (for about 7%).
Active in seven countries, ERG is a widespread operator at the European level in the renewable energy sector.
It has a total installed wind capacity of over 1.9 GW in Europe, particularly in France, Germany, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and Italy, where ERG is currently the main operator in the sector; it is also among the top ten onshore wind energy players in Europe.
ERG is also active in the production of hydroelectric energy (527 MW), photovoltaic energy (140 MW), and from low environmental impact thermoelectric sources (480 MW).
It is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange in the FTSE Italia Mid Cap index.
