Gianni Vittorio Armani from May 2021 to June 2023 was the CEO of Iren. Graduated in electronic engineering from La Sapienza in Rome, he completed his studies in business administration and finance management with an MBA at MIT in Boston. He was the Director of Strategy, Regulatory and Business Development at A2A, contributing to the setting up and launch of the new industrial plan. From 2015 to 2018, he was the Chairman and CEO of Anas SpA, guiding the company towards its entry into the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group. He was an independent board member of the SGR F2i. He currently serves as a senior advisor for the investment fund Azimut, in addition to being a board member of Ital Gas Storage and the high-tech startup Green Energy Storage. Between 2005 and 2015, he worked for Terna SpA holding positions of increasing responsibility: from Director of Planning and Network Development to Director of Operations Italy to CEO of Terna Rete Italia. Before 2005, he worked at Grtn (Manager of the National Electric Grid) until its merger with Terna. At the base of his career is experience in strategic consulting at McKinsey & Company and in Telecom Italia.
Iren is an Italian joint-stock company operating in multi-utilities, particularly in the production and distribution of electricity, in district heating services (of which it is the largest Italian operator), and in the management of integrated water, environmental, and technological services.
The company was formed in July 2010 from the merger between IRIDE (which in turn had brought together AEM Torino and AMGA Genova in 2006) and ENÌA, company founded in 2005 as a result of the union of AGAC Reggio Emilia, AMPS Parma, and Tesa Piacenza. In 2021, the company presented its first industrial plan with a 10-year vision, planning 13-billion-euro investments in its areas of operation, divided into the fields of sustainability and service quality.
Iren is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in the FTSE Italia Mid Cap index and ranks among the 25 largest Italian companies by revenue, serving a customer base of about 2 million in the energy sector, 2.8 million inhabitants in the integrated water cycle, and over 3.1 million inhabitants in the environmental cycle.
