Biography

Giorgio Squinzi was born in 1943 in Cisano Bergamasco, in the province of Bergamo. After obtaining a degree in industrial chemistry from the University of Milan, he began his working career in the family business, active since 1937 in the production of adhesives for lightweight flooring. In 1970, he founded Mapei (Auxiliary Materials for Construction and Industry) together with his father and became General Manager in 1976. From 1997 to 2003, he served as President of Federchimica. In 2002, he was elected President of ABM (Assembly Business Member) and, in the same year, received an honorary degree in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan. Between 2003 and 2004, he led Mapei to invest in football (his great passion). In 2005, Giorgio Squinzi was elected head of the National Federation of the Chemical Industry and, the following year, received the appointment of Vice President of the Confederation of European Chemical Industries. In 2012, Giorgio Squinzi was elected President of Confindustria. In 2016, he stepped down from the leadership of Confindustria due to the expiration of his term.
