Biography

Born in Arezzo on January 8, 1957. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florence in 1981. In 1983 Valerio Battista began working for Uno A Erre Italia. In September 1987, he joined the Operations Department of the “Steel Cord” division of the Pirelli & C. group in Figline Valdarno. In 1997, he took on the role of Director of the “Steel Cord” division of Pirelli Tyre, where, in 2001, he became Purchasing Director. Since February 2002, he has held the position of CEO of the Energy Cables and Systems business unit and, since December 2004, also of the Telecom Cables and Systems business unit of the Group. With more than 17 years of experience in the Pirelli & C. group, he led the Energy Cables and Systems business unit for five years, including the period 2002-2003 during which the Group successfully completed the reorganization plan. Since June 2014, Valerio Battista has been President of Europacable and since October 2015 a member of the Council Board of the International Electrotechnical Commission. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Prysmian since December 2005 and CEO until April 2024.

Founded in 1879 as Pirelli Cables and Systems, the company is a world leader in the cable systems sector. Specifically, Prysmian is involved in the production and installation of underground and submarine cables for the transmission and distribution of electricity, as well as special cables intended for use in various industrial sectors and medium and low voltage cables for construction and infrastructure. For telecommunications, the Group produces copper cables, optical cables, and fiber optic cables for the transmission of data, video, and voice.

Prysmian also handles the design and implementation of turnkey systems at the customer's request, as well as post-installation maintenance.

Every year, the company invests over 100 million euros in research and development. On December 4, 2017, it acquired 100% of the US rival General Cable, and then completed the merger by incorporation the following year, after receiving antitrust approval from the respective countries. With the acquisition, a group with over 10 billion euros in revenue and 30,000 employees was formed.

The company is listed on the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange.
