Born in Rho (MI) in 1963, after graduating in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, Flavio Cattaneo began his managerial career in 1989, taking over the family business, active in the construction sector. In 1998, he became Vice President of AEM, an energy company of the Municipality of Milan now known as A2A. In 2003, he was appointed General Director of Rai, and between 2005 and 2014, Flavio Cattaneo served as CEO of Terna. Between December 2014 and March 2016, he was also an independent director of Generali Assicurazioni. Already a director of Telecom Italia since April 2014, Flavio Cattaneo became CEO with executive powers on March 30, 2016. From October 2017 to December 2018, he was CEO of Italo - NTV.
Since May 2023, he has served as CEO and General Manager of the Enel Group, leading the definition and implementation of the energy group's global strategies. During the same period, Cattaneo was also appointed Chairman of Enel Iberia and Vice Chairman of Endesa. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Assicurazioni Generali. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards for his managerial leadership, including the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro awarded to him by the Italian Republic in 2011.
Enel S.p.A. (originally an acronym for National Agency for Work Energy) is an Italian multinational energy company, among the leading integrated global operators in the electricity and gas sectors. Established as a public entity at the end of 1962, it was transformed into a joint-stock company in 1992 and in 1999, following the liberalization of the electricity market in Italy, it was listed on the stock exchange.
