Roberto Cingolani was born in Milan on December 23, 1961, he is married and has three children. In 1985, he graduated in Physics from the University of Bari and, in 1989, he obtained a specialization diploma in Physics from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. In 2006, he was appointed scientific director and CEO of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and, in February 2021, he was called by the Draghi Government to serve as Minister for Ecological Transition. Since May 9, 2023, Roberto Cingolani has been the CEO of Leonardo.
Leonardo is an Italian company active in the fields of defense, aerospace, and security. Its largest shareholder is the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, which holds approximately 30% of the shares.
From 1948 until 2016, it was known as Finmeccanica; it changed its name to Leonardo-Finmeccanica in April 2016 and subsequently adopted its current corporate name on January 1, 2017. As of January 1, 2016, the activities of the previously controlled companies AgustaWestland, Alenia Aermacchi, Selex ES, OTO Melara, and Wass were merged into Leonardo-Finmeccanica.
