Brand

Renault is a French automotive manufacturer founded in 1898 in Paris by entrepreneur Louis Renault.

During the twenties and thirties, the company established itself as one of the largest car producers in the country; famous is its competition with the Citroën brand. After the war and the death of its founder, the company came under state control with the name Régie nationale des usines Renault and remained publicly owned for about half a century: during this period, it consolidated as one of the major manufacturers in Europe and distinguished itself by launching successful models such as the Dauphine, the Renault 4, and other mid-range vehicles like the Renault 25 or the Fuego, with sales in the hundreds of thousands of units.

Privatized in 1996 and renamed Renault SA, it has since initiated partnerships with other major manufacturers such as Swedish Volvo and Japanese Nissan, as well as acquiring brands in emerging markets like Romanian Dacia. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi group, of which it is a founding member, was classified in 2017 as the largest automotive consortium in the world. In January 2020, Luca de Meo was chosen as the new CEO, previously at the helm of Seat (Volkswagen Group).
