Biography

Oscar Farinetti, born on September 24, 1954, in Alba (CN), after graduating from classical high school, enrolled in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Turin. In 1976, he decided to abandon his university studies to dedicate himself to the entrepreneurial activity related to UniEuro, the company founded by his father in the late 1960s. Starting in 1978, he became a member of the board of directors at UniEuro, then CEO, and finally president, a position he held until 2003, when he decided to sell the company to the public company Dixons Retail based in Hemel Hempstead (United Kingdom). In 2004, he embarked on a new entrepreneurial adventure, founding the high-quality food distribution chain Eataly.

Eataly is a chain of medium and large retail outlets specializing in the sale and distribution of Italian food products.

It was founded in 2004 by Oscar Farinetti, who was previously the owner of Unieuro.

The company is 40% controlled by Farinetti, 40% by some cooperatives of the Coop system (Coop Liguria and Coop Alleanza 3.0), and 20% by the investment fund Tamburi Investment Partners.

In 2022, Oscar Farinetti's control over Eataly with Eatinvest passes for 200 million euros to InvestIndustrial of Andrea Bonomi, who will then hold 52% of the company.

It has retail outlets and restaurants spread all over the world, particularly in Italy and the USA.
