Francesco Milleri is the CEO of Luxottica and Chairman of EssilorLuxottica, as well as Chairman of Delfin. He graduated with honors in Law from the University of Florence, where he gained experience as a teaching assistant in Political Economy from 1984 to 1986. He then obtained an MBA in Business Administration with high merit from the Bocconi School of Management in Milan in 1987, followed by a two-year specialization in Corporate Finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University. In 1988, Francesco Milleri began his career as a business consultant for large Italian groups and multinational companies operating in various sectors, from mechanics to consumer goods, from financial institutions to pharmaceuticals. Alongside his consulting activities, he founded in 1996 and developed for about 20 years a group of companies focused on technology and systems for digital automation. He also sits on the Boards of Directors of the Leonardo Del Vecchio Foundation and IEO European Institute of Oncology. While maintaining responsibilities at Luxottica, Francesco Milleri has overseen the integration between Essilor and Luxottica since January 2017.
Luxottica Group is an Italian company specialized in the production and trade of eyewear. It is present in over 150 countries across five continents and is the largest global manufacturer of frames for prescription glasses and sunglasses. The company was founded in Agordo in 1961 by Leonardo Del Vecchio.
Throughout its history, the company has distinguished itself through a wide range of acquisitions (notably that of the American brand Ray-Ban, a leader in the sunglasses sector previously owned by the multinational Bausch & Lomb). On March 24, 2014, Luxottica announced an agreement with Google for a new model of augmented reality glasses, a project revisited in 2023 with the Meta group.
In 2012, it was the first Italian company in the fashion sector by revenue. On January 16, 2017, the merger of Luxottica with the French group Essilor was announced. Since October 1, 2018, Luxottica Group S.p.A. has been a subsidiary of the holding EssilorLuxottica, which has held 100% of it since March 5, 2019.
The company was listed under the symbol LUX in the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange from 2000 to 2018.
