Biography

Born in Foligno in 1957, Catia Bastioli graduated from the University of Perugia in pure chemistry and then specialized in Business Management at Bocconi University in Milan. As a scientist, she worked until 1988 in materials science, environmental sustainability, and renewable raw materials. She is the CEO of Novamont, which she transformed from a research center into a leading industry in the field of bioplastics and low environmental impact renewable source products. Thanks to the success of her patents, in 2007 Catia Bastioli was named European Inventor of the Year and was awarded two honorary degrees, one in industrial chemistry and the other in materials engineering. She is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. From May 2014 to May 2020, she was the President of Terna.
