Biography

Marco Alverà, born in New York in 1975, was the CEO of Snam, one of the world's leading energy infrastructure companies, from April 2016 to April 2022. He has over twenty years of experience in the most important Italian energy companies. After graduating in Philosophy and Economics from the London School of Economics, he began his professional career at Goldman Sachs in London, before moving to Enel and then to Wind. He then joined Eni, where he worked for over ten years holding various managerial positions of increasing responsibility. Since 2017, he has been a non-executive director of S&P Global, where he chairs the Finance Committee of the board. He is also a member of the General Council and the Steering Committee of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, a board member of ISPI (Institute for International Political Studies), and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford. He is the vice president of the Snam Foundation, committed to the social development of territories, as well as the founder of the Kenta Foundation, active in promoting gender balance and combating educational poverty. He has written the books "Hydrogen Revolution" (Mondadori) and "Zhero" (Salani) on the potential of hydrogen in the fight against climate change.

Snam S.p.A. (acronym for Società NAzionale Metanodotti, that is National Methane Pipeline Company) is an energy infrastructure company headquartered in San Donato Milanese (MI) active in the transportation, storage, and regasification of methane.

It was established on October 30, 1941, under the name "National Methane Pipeline Company". In 2009, Snam Rete Gas acquired 100% of Italgas S.p.A. from ENI (which later opted for a partial spin-off) and of Stoccaggi Gas Italia S.p.A.

Snam operates in Italy and through subsidiaries in Albania, Austria, France, Greece, and the United Kingdom. It is among the shareholders of TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline) and ADNOC Gas Pipelines, a company that holds the management rights of 38 gas pipelines in the United Arab Emirates.

The company is listed on the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange.
