Lorenzo Mariani has been CEO of Leonardo since May 2026. He had previously served as the company's Co-General Manager since June 2023, the same year he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of MBDA Italia SpA and Leonardo A Director and Deputy Chairman of MBDA BV.
From September 2020 to June 2023, he was Executive Group Director of Sales & Business Development of MBDA and Managing Director of MBDA Italia. Previously, he held various positions within the Leonardo Group (formerly Finmeccanica). From October 2017, he was Commercial Director, and in May 2018, he was appointed CEO of Leonardo International, which encompasses the Group's international holdings. From January 2016 to September 2017, he headed Leonardo's Land and Naval Defence Electronics Division (a role he had previously held from January 2013 to December 2015 at SELEX Electronics Systems, before the company was merged into the Leonardo One Company). Lorenzo Mariani's previous experience includes the positions of Deputy General Manager (July 2010 - November 2011) and General Manager (December 2011 - December 2012) at SELEX Sistemi Integrati, where he joined in 2006 following his initial experience at MBDA as Head of Product Strategy (from 2002 to 2005).
After graduating with honors in Electronic Engineering in 1990 and serving as a Naval Officer in 1991, his professional experience began in 1992. From then until 2002, he worked for Alenia and AMS as a Radar Systems Analyst, Designer and Integrator of Multifunction Naval Radar, and finally as Sales Director, first in South America and then in Europe/NATO, for the Land Systems Division.
Leonardo is an Italian company active in the fields of defense, aerospace, and security. Its largest shareholder is the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, which holds approximately 30% of the shares.
From 1948 until 2016, it was known as Finmeccanica; it changed its name to Leonardo-Finmeccanica in April 2016 and subsequently adopted its current corporate name on January 1, 2017. As of January 1, 2016, the activities of the previously controlled companies AgustaWestland, Alenia Aermacchi, Selex ES, OTO Melara, and Wass were merged into Leonardo-Finmeccanica.

The company is listed on the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange. The company is structured into five operating divisions: helicopters, aircraft, aerostructures, electronics, and cyber security (formerly security and information systems).
