Salvatore Ferragamo is an Italian fashion house founded in Florence in 1927 by the shoemaker designer Salvatore Ferragamo.
About ten years after the company's founding, the founder, who had previously emigrated to the United States, internationalizes the brand by opening stores in London and New York. Upon his death in 1960, a reorganization at the top of the company takes place under the leadership of his wife Wanda Ferragamo Miletti and their six children. Since 1965, the company has expanded its production to bags, clothing, and men's silk accessories, which have met with great success. Today, production also includes eyewear, fragrances, watches, and jewelry. Since 1989, Salvatore Ferragamo has begun an expansion in the East with stores in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul.
In 2006, Ferruccio Ferragamo succeeded his mother as president, and the manager Michele Norsa was appointed CEO.
In 2011, the company was listed on the stock exchange and released 48% of its shares to the market (the remaining shares remain in the hands of the Ferragamo family through the holding company Palazzo Feroni Finanziaria).
Today, the Group's distribution network consists of more than 600 stores worldwide.
Over the years, among the brand's admirers have been stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Andy Warhol, Evita Perón, Margaret Thatcher, and Princess Diana. The maison has also collaborated on the production of various Hollywood films, from The Ten Commandments to Evita and Australia.
