Biography

Francesco Caio, after serving as President since 2018, in 2021 takes on the role of CEO of Saipem. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of BNL Group BNP Paribas. He was Economic Advisor to the Italian Prime Minister for industrial policies, CEO and Managing Director of Poste Italiane where he led the privatization process with the largest European IPO of 2015. Before this, he was CEO of Avio (a leader in aerospace propulsion technologies), Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy), Olivetti, Merloni Elettrodomestici Indesit & Ariston Elettrodomestici, Netscalibur, Cable&Wireless. An expert in investment banking where he was Chairman of the European Advisory Committee of Lehman and Vice President of Nomura in London. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of various boards including Motorola, Equant, Invensys. He advised the Italian and English Governments on national broadband plans and was Commissioner of the Italian Cabinet for the Digital Agenda. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Politecnico di Milano where he graduated in Computer Science. He obtained an MBA from Insead (Institut européen d'administration des affaires).
