Born in Rome on June 13, 1958, Elisabetta Serafin graduated with honors in 1982 in Political Science from the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, with a focus on international studies. In 1984, she won the competition for the managerial career at the Bank of Italy and on May 1, 1985, she joined the roles of the Senate of the Republic after winning the competition for the career of Parliamentary Advisors, where she held primary positions of responsibility. On February 18, 2003, she was appointed Director of the Assembly Service, a position she held until her appointment as Secretary General of the Senate on February 9, 2011. On January 29, 2024, she coordinated, at the request of the President, the Senate's activities aimed at hosting at Palazzo Madama the “Italy-Africa Intergovernmental Summit, a bridge for common growth.” Since May 14, 2024, Elisabetta Serafin has been the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, as well as the Chairperson of the Sustainability, Scenarios, and Governance Committee of Saipem S.p.A.
