Biography

Engineer, company executive, and academic, Dario Lo Bosco, former President of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, has been the CEO of Italferr since March 2025. He is also a Full Professor and Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering, Energy, Environment, and Materials “DICEAM” at the University of Studies “Mediterranea” of Reggio Calabria. Registered with the National Engineers' Register and the Order of Journalists of Sicily, he is also the author of over 300 publications, books, and monographs in his areas of expertise.

Originally from Raffadali, born in 1960, he graduated with honors in Civil Engineering - Transport Section from the University of Studies of Palermo. He began his career as a researcher and associate professor at the Calabrian university, where he is also responsible for the scientific-disciplinary area “Roads, Railways, Airports” and Director of the Research Laboratories of “V.I.A. of Territorial Infrastructures” and “Engineering of Railway Infrastructures”. Among his current roles is also Director of the Master's in Economics, Engineering, and Logistics and today Dean of the PhD in Civil, Environmental, and Safety Engineering. From 2017 to 2022, he was also Director of the Second Level Master's in “Engineering and Management of Infrastructure Networks and Logistics” and in “Law, Economics, and Management of Networks” at the University Pegaso. During the same period, he was also Co-Coordinator of the Second Level Master's in Engineering of Infrastructures and Railway Systems at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

His experience in managing large corporate groups began in 1997 when he first became Commissioner and then President of the AST Group, Sicilian Transport Company, as well as being a proponent of the transformation of the entity into a joint-stock company. In those years, he was also a Consultant for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance for infrastructural interventions in the South. In 2001, he received his first appointments for RFI, Trenitalia, and TAV as a Board Member and Member of the Investment Committee. In 2007, he was appointed Extraordinary Commissioner and President of the Port Authority of Messina, later taking on the role of Extraordinary Commissioner of the Chamber of Commerce of Catania. After a brief period as Operating President and CEO of AST, from 2012 to 2015, he was also Vice President and Member of the Steering Committee of Confindustria Palermo.

In 2020, he was appointed President of Hellenic Train, a subsidiary of the FS Group operating in the Greek market. In the same year, he also became Head of FS Academy and Technical Methodologies and Scientific Director of the magazine “Quaderni FS Academy”, a quarterly engineering journal dedicated to infrastructure networks. In May 2023, he took on the role of President of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.

For his contributions in his field and the results achieved throughout his career, Dario Lo Bosco has received several awards. In 2005, he was appointed Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Also in the same year, he became a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts. For his contribution to the optimization process of the port area of the Strait, in 2009 the Rotary Club of Messina awarded him the “Paul Harris Fellow”.

Italferr is a joint-stock company wholly owned by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and under the direction of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. Founded in Rome in 1984, the company designs and coordinates the construction projects of new high-speed lines and the modernization of the railway network.
