The entrepreneurial career of Urbano Cairo began in 1995 when he founded Cairo Pubblicità, the advertising agency for the publications Io Donna, Oggi, and TV Sette, which he then developed with a multimedia strategy involving pay TV, digital media, and the internet. In 1999, he acquired Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori, which reached economic breakeven within a year. In 2000, the Cairo Communication Group went public, and, in 2002, it obtained the concession for advertising collection for La7, which was later acquired in 2013. In 2003, Cairo Editore was founded, launching two successful monthly magazines and nine weekly magazines from 2004 to 2016. In 2005, he acquired Torino F.C., bringing it to Serie A in just one season. In 2016, Cairo Communication promoted a tender and exchange offer on RCS MediaGroup, acquiring control (59.69%) the following July.
