Gruppo VèGè

Gruppo VéGé is an Italian multi-banner retail cooperative established in May 1959 at the initiative of Emilio Lombardini, a native of Bergamo. The name derives from the Dutch *VErkoop GEmeenschap*—a cooperative founded in 1938 and dissolved in 1980—which translates to "Selling Together." Gruppo VéGé was the first Italian retail organization to adopt an associative model based on the integration of wholesale and retail operations.

In 1979, the "Pantamarket" banner—Gruppo VéGé’s first proprietary brand—was launched, encompassing several cash-and-carry outlets. This period also saw the creation of the well-known Sidis brand.

Euromadis, an association hub uniting Gruppo VéGé and Gruppo Selex, was established in 1996. This alliance ended in 1998, and from 1999 until June 2014, Gruppo VéGé operated under the name Interdis. In 2014, it reverted to its original name and launched a private-label line for select products.

The 2000s were marked by new alliances and memberships: Aicube was formed in partnership with Gruppo PAM, and new members included—among others—Gruppo Rocchetta (with the Paghi Poco and Sidis banners), Tosano supermarkets, Gruppo Arena, Gruppo Vega, GDA, and Bennet. In February 2018, Gruppo VéGé—Italy's third-largest operator by number of stores—joined the central purchasing organization of the Iberian group IFA, which operates over 6,780 stores across Spain and Portugal.

As of 2025, Gruppo VéGé comprises 32 companies operating across Italy with various banners and interregional reach, boasting approximately 3,500 stores and an 8.3% market share.
