Edison is an Italian company active in the fields of procurement, production, and sale of electricity and gas, fully controlled by the French group Électricité de France.
It is one of the main electricity producers in Italy and has a production capacity that includes combined cycle gas plants, hydroelectric, wind, solar, and biomass facilities.
Since 2007, it has participated in the project to build a 420 MW thermoelectric power plant in Thisvi, Greece, operational since 2010 and managed by a joint venture with Hellenic Petroleum named Elpedison.
In the hydrocarbons sector, Edison is the second Italian operator, covering more than 21% of the national gas demand. The company is studying exploration and production activities for hydrocarbons in the Middle East and Africa. According to former CEO and current chairman Marc Benayoun, it aims to develop infrastructure in Europe, thanks to the network of gas pipelines and its regasification terminals already initiated by Snam, which has acquired important networks in Europe, including France.
On the Milan Stock Exchange, only the savings shares are listed in the FTSE Italia Small Cap index, following the delisting of ordinary shares that occurred in 2012.
