Descalzi and Mazzoncini, Energy at the top. Cattaneo accelerates

04 August 2025

For the first time, Pier Silvio Berlusconi tops the Top Manager Reputation ranking with a score of 85.92. His rise is driven by Mediaset’s new programming schedules, his press statements, strong Canale 5 ratings, whispered talk of a possible move into politics, and market activity around MFE.

Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, climbs three places to second with 84.40, thanks to an agreement with BMW and a $1.5 billion deal covering an Algerian field.
Third is Carlo Messina (84.32), CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo, which is setting aside €10 billion for employment initiatives. Up two places to fourth, Renato Mazzoncini of A2A scores 81.71 after investing in employee welfare and opening Italy’s first liquid-cooled data centre. In fifth, Andrea Orcel of UniCredit posts 81.62, having withdrawn his offer for Banca Popolare di Milano amid Golden Power objections.

Luca de Meo stands sixth at 80.90, eagerly awaited at the helm of Kering. Seventh is Alessandro Benetton (79.00), reconfirmed as chairman of Edizione. Urbano Cairo climbs four spots to eighth with 76.86, buoyed by La7’s continually improving ratings unveiled at the network’s schedule presentation. Ninth remains Giorgio Armani (76.79), followed by Matteo Del Fante of Poste Italiane in tenth (74.37).

Stefano Donnarumma gains two places to eleventh (71.88) with Ferrovie dello Stato’s €20 billion sustainable-mobility plan. Twelfth, Giuseppina Di Foggia (71.19) rises three spots on Terna’s Adriatic Innovation Zone project. They are followed by Brunello Cucinelli (70.98), Cristina Scocchia (69.88), and Pierroberto Folgiero (69.72), who moves up two places to fifteenth after receiving an honorary degree in Trieste.

Luca Dal Fabbro holds steady at sixteenth (68.10) after being appointed chairman of Utilitalia, ahead of Pietro Labriola of TIM in seventeenth (66.47). Entering the Top 20 at eighteenth, Flavio Cattaneo (66.46) jumps eight places as international media acknowledge Enel’s results and solid stock-market performance. Nineteenth and twentieth are Gian Maria Mossa of Banca Generali (66.42) and Marina Berlusconi (66.31).

Notable upward moves: Fabrizio Palermo (35th, +9), Giovanni Ferrero (36th, +16), Luigi Lovaglio (39th, +7), Antonio Filosa (44th, +7), Claudio Andrea Gemme (66th, +19), Giuseppe Gola (86th, +17), Corrado Passera (103rd, +18) and Bernardo Mattarella (135th, +15). Well-performing new entries: Massimiliano Di Silvestre (47th), President and CEO of BMW Italia, and Gianni Franco Papa (55th) of BPER Banca.
