Biography

Born in 1953, Mauro Moretti graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bologna in 1977. In the same year, he won the public competition for managerial roles at the Autonomous State Railways, beginning in 1978 a path of professional growth within the company. In 2006, he took on the role of CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato. From 2007 to 2010, he also held the position of President of Italferr and, from 2008 to 2014, that of President of Grandi Stazioni. From 2014 to 2017, he became CEO and General Director of Leonardo. During his tenure, Mauro Moretti initiated the restructuring and reorganization of the company, culminating in 2016 with the birth of One Company. Under his leadership, the rebranding of the company was conceived and realized, transforming it from Finmeccanica to Leonardo. He also holds the roles of: member of the General Council of Confindustria and the Technical Group Europe of Confindustria, member of the General Council of the Union of Industrialists of Rome and Lazio, President of the Research and Entrepreneurship Foundation, and member of the Executive Council of the Leonardo Committee. He received an honorary degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2005 and the title of Knight of Labor in 2010.

Brand

Leonardo is an Italian company active in the fields of defense, aerospace, and security. Its largest shareholder is the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, which holds approximately 30% of the shares.

From 1948 until 2016, it was known as Finmeccanica; it changed its name to Leonardo-Finmeccanica in April 2016 and subsequently adopted its current corporate name on January 1, 2017. As of January 1, 2016, the activities of the previously controlled companies AgustaWestland, Alenia Aermacchi, Selex ES, OTO Melara, and Wass were merged into Leonardo-Finmeccanica.

Leonardo is the twelfth largest defense company in the world and the largest in the European Union by size, with defense sector revenues representing 68% of its turnover. The company is listed on the FTSE MIB index of the Milan Stock Exchange. The company is structured into five operating divisions: helicopters, aircraft, aerostructures, electronics, and cyber security (formerly security and information systems).
