Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche, more commonly known as Danieli, is an Italian multinational company based in Buttrio (Udine) and is one of the world leaders in the production of steel plants, with a particular focus on the long products sector, in which it holds over 90% of the global market share. It is listed on the FTSE Italia Mid Cap index of the Milan Stock Exchange.
The origin of the company dates back to 1914, when the two brothers Mario and Timo Danieli acquired the Acciaierie Angelini in Brescia. They later separated, splitting the company in two, and in the post-World War II period, the company of Mario's branch (now led by his son Luigi) named Danieli & C, focused on the production of machinery for the steel industry and later on the design and construction of entire plants. In 1979, the company had a turnover of over 130 billion lire, 80% of which was generated abroad, and employed 1,600 people. In the following decade, the company began a phase of significant internationalization and secured contracts in the USSR and North Africa.
After the passing of Cecilia Danieli (Mario's granddaughter) in 1999, Gianpietro Benedetti took over as President of the company.
As of June 30, 2020, the recorded turnover of Danieli is 2.8 billion euros, with a net profit of 62.4 million.
