Luisa Spagnoli

Luisa Spagnoli

Luisa Spagnoli was born in 1877 in Perugia. Together with her husband, she took over a small grocery store where she began producing confetti. In 1907, the Spagnoli couple, along with Francesco Buitoni, founded the legendary "Perugina". Luisa Spagnoli dedicated herself to creating social structures within the company to improve the quality of life for employees; for example, she introduced a nursery and the right to breastfeeding for women in the factory. She is the inventor of the famous chocolate "Bacio Perugina". Later, she focused on raising poultry and Angora rabbits, obtaining their fur without killing or shearing them, but simply by grooming them: thus she created the Angora Spagnoli. Today, there are stores and outlet stores that bear her name, famous all over the world. She died in 1935 from throat cancer.

The ability to imagine what is not yet there, this makes the difference.

Curiosities

In addition to the iconic Bacio Perugina, Luisa Spagnoli is also known for other famous confectionery inventions such as the "Rossana" candies or "banana chocolate". The idea, which later proved to be successful, of including love messages inside the silver wrapping of the famous Perugina chocolate seems to have been born by chance. Popular legends tell that Luisa, in love with her partner Giovanni Buitoni, used to write him love messages and wrap them around the chocolates for him to inspect.
