Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace was born in 1946 in Reggio Calabria. As a young man, he began working in his mother's atelier. In 1972, he moved to Milan to work as a clothing designer. In 1978, he presented his first women's collection, and the following year, he began a collaboration with photographer Richard Avedon and got closer to the world of theatrical costumes. In 1991, his famous perfume "Versus" was launched. He collaborated with the most sought-after photographers and the top models of the time: Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, and Cindy Crawford. In 1993, the Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded him the American Fashion Oscar.

In July 1997, Gianni Versace was shot and killed on the steps of his Miami Beach home, where he lived with his partner Antonio D’Amico. Today, it is Donatella Versace who manages the fashion house that bears his name.

I have never fallen. I have always flown.

Curiosities

A great art enthusiast, particularly of the neoclassical period. An avid collector of sculptures, ancient vases, and artworks of all types and from all historical periods (Picasso, Degas, De Chirico, or Lichtenstein). He also greatly admires Patty Pravo: once, to see her up close after a concert, he climbed over a very high gate, risking breaking all his vertebrae. However, his true point of reference has always been family, being very fond of his brothers Santo and especially Donatella. Gianni adores his little sister and shapes her as if she were a doll. For example, it was his idea to dye her hair platinum blonde.
