Fincantieri

Fincantieri is an Italian company operating in the shipbuilding sector and the most important naval group in Europe. It was officially established in 1959.

Originally owned by IRI, it is now 71.3% controlled by CdP Industria, the financial branch of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

In 1984, Fincantieri directly took over the operational activities of the companies it previously controlled, including Italcantieri, and four divisions were established: merchant and offshore construction, military construction, naval repairs and transformations, and engine manufacturing.

In the mid-1990s, the market saw an upward trend in shipbuilding, particularly in the cruise ship segment, where Fincantieri became a world leader, with a market share that has been above 25 percent since 1995.

The company has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in the FTSE Italia Mid Cap index since June 2014.
