Eni, initially an acronym for National Hydrocarbons Authority, is the largest oil and gas company in Italy. It was founded in 1953 as a public entity during the presidency of Enrico Mattei, with the aim of rebuilding the Italian economy after World War II. Mattei led Eni in developing relationships with oil-producing countries in the Middle East and Africa, securing energy supplies for Italy.  

In 1962, Eni was converted into a joint-stock company, although still under public control. In the 1990s, under the leadership of CEO Franco Bernabè, Eni was fully privatized. Today, Eni is an integrated company active across the entire energy value chain, from exploration to refining, distribution, and sales. Eni operates in various countries including Congo, Egypt, Angola, Algeria, and Libya.  

In addition to traditional hydrocarbon activities, Eni is investing in renewable energies such as wind, solar, and biomass to support the energy transition. Its iconic six-legged logo represents the company's main business areas.
